A Place of Honor

Alumni Park, which extends west of Holden Street to Selmo Park, and former location of the president's home, is named for the thousands of alumni who have attended the University of Central Missouri. It features the Maastricht Friendship Tower, art sculptures, the outdoor amphitheater and numerous walkways. The newest addition to the park is the Culp-Feidt Fountain.

About Culp-Feidt Fountain

The Culp-Feidt Fountain in Alumni Park is a peaceful oasis in the heart of the bustling Central Missouri campus. The fountain sits on the site of the former Culp family residence, donated to the university by Margaret Culp Feidt, a 1934 alumna who lives in Philadelphia, PA. The house was built in 1908 by Margaret's grandparents, Jesse and Judith Rice Culp (a graduate of Normal School #2), of the same glazed cobblestone used to pave Holden Street.

A Gift from the Culp Family

Margaret's brother, Leland, and his wife, Zinn, were the last Culp family members to live in the house. Leland, who attended UCM for two years and went to the Georgia Institute of Technology to earn an engineering degree, was a well-respected Warrensburg businessman and community leader. Owner of Inland Chemical Company, former city mayor and member of UCM's Board of Governors, he died in 1988. His wife, Zinn, passed away in 1999.

Margaret, who funded a scholarship at UCM in memory of her brother and parents, recalls lots of memories associated with the house, especially the homecoming floats her sorority, Alpha Gamma Delta, built in the garage.

Alumni Bricks

The fountain features customized engraved bricks that have been purchased by alumni for themselves or to honor beloved or admired people in their lives. For a $100 contribution designated to The Fund For Excellence, you can purchase a brick for yourself or to honor loved ones, classmates, favorite professors or even future graduates. Bricks may be engraved with your name or the names of friends, family members, teachers or mentors.
